However, according to the traditions of his village, anyone who accumulated too many desires would experience a phenomenon known as "The Wave," making them unfit to become the Vessel of God. Because of this, from childhood onward, he was deprived of everything that could bring him joy or happiness—flavorful food, soft bedding, relationships with the opposite sex, and many other ordinary pleasures.
The Wave is a state in which suppressed emotions erupt all at once, like an overwhelming emotional overflow. Imagine suddenly binge-eating in the middle of the night after holding back for far too long—that's the closest comparison.
For years, he endured brutal training from his father to prepare him as both the Vessel of God and a warrior against yokai. He also suffered from the villagers' treatment of him and the harsh punishments he received whenever he showed even the slightest desire. He developed a habit of touching his ears because it somehow helped calm him down.
Deep inside, he longed for someone else to gently touch his ears. His yearning for kindness, affection, and simple human contact eventually manifested physically, leaving him with pointed ears as a symbol of those suppressed desires.
After failing to become the Vessel of God, he was sentenced to death as punishment. Just before his execution, he seized a brief moment when his guards were distracted and escaped. While wandering through a forest in the yokai world, he discovered a mysterious light that appeared without warning. Stepping into it, he found himself transported out of his world and into the human world.
He arrived near Daikaku-ji Temple in Kyoto. Wounded from his punishment and caught in a pouring rain, he staggered on foot until he reached the area around Kurumazaki Shrine. There, he finally collapsed. By pure coincidence, a college student named Emi, who had gone out to buy alcohol, found him and took him in.
Everything in the human world was completely new to him. Having survived on bland, tasteless meals all his life, even a simple bowl of rice moved him to tears. As a result, his favorite food is anything Emi cooks.Despite his elegant appearance, he usually speaks in polite Japanese with a noticeable Kansai dialect. Once he truly relaxes and feels at home, however, he naturally drops the formal speech.
